MASUDA Masahiro Solo Exhibition "Scattered and Connected"

My production process involves photographing a place, projecting that image onto the same place with a projector, and photographing it again. This process is repeated multiple times, and the images continue like leftover after-images.
Until now, I have been expressing the chain of time by superimposing past images onto the same place.
This is because I wanted to express the meaning that a place holds as the passing of time, and as an artwork.
Starting from my own studio in Ibaraki Prefecture, I have repeatedly taken photos in various places both at home and abroad, from highly individual locations such as office buildings, riding stables, old castles, mountain forests and small islands, to public places. At first, I felt that each place had its own time and story, but when I looked at all my completed art with a bird's eye view, I could feel the axis of time that is common to all art.

Most of the works in this exhibition are in black and white. Many of my previous series of work have incorporated the grainy, comparatively bright colors produced by photography and projection, but by intentionally suppressing those colors, the gap between reality and virtual imagery, and the layer of matière using paints are emphasized.
Objects, and images obtained by projection at the time of photographing have a physically different existence, although they are on the same axis of time. However, on the screen of my work, this layer of time from the past becomes a series.
The inorganic door and corridor motifs create perspective depth, which is reminiscent of space and time that spreads out to the other side.
This exhibition has been named "Scattered and Connected" with the expectation that scattered motifs such as the past, present, virtual imagery, real imagery, as well as the viewer's imagination, are connected in one space through my art.
